Dear Emma C. Smith Elementary School Families,

I am excited to be the instructional leader at Smith Elementary! I have the pleasure of working alongside a team of dedicated teachers and staff members who share my commitment to creating the best possible environment for your children to learn and thrive. We are all grateful to be part of a school district that values educating the whole child - focusing on academic, behavioral, and social emotional learning and success.

In addition to our district’s goals, I am eager to bring a strong focus on technology into our classrooms. I envision a school in which all children are able to use technology as a tool to communicate, learn, and create. We have been able to upgrade our technology in the past few years, and I would like to continue that plan and expand it so that we have a 1:1 computer accessibility at Smith Elementary in the very near future.

My vision outpaces our district and school funding allocations. So, I am turning to the tradition of the Smith Education Fund to seek your support in attaining our goal more quickly, so that your children and all children at Smith can benefit sooner and become digitally literate students.

The Smith Education Fund has provided an opportunity for families and community members to donate to our school to support specific instructional programs. In the past, for example, this fund has added to our ability to provide intervention and counseling support. We still have those programs, now funded by our site allocation.

If you are interested in supporting our effort to create a digitally literate student body and a 21st century classroom and school, please consider donating this year to the Smith Education Fund. Our goal is to raise $80,000 to support our 1:1 technology initiative. If every family donated $150, we would achieve our goal. A donation of any amount is very much appreciated. All donations are tax deductible. I would welcome your donation now or at any time that is convenient for you.

Please know that donations of materials or funds are not required of any student or family.  No child will be denied participation in any activities, regardless of whether donations are given. If you do wish to contribute, please write a check to “LVJUSD - Smith Education Fund.”

Thank you for your support! I look forward to a great year!

    Regards,

    Joe Meunier, Principal
