Welcome to the Michell 6-8th grade Instrumental Music Department.

The goal of the Michell Music Program is to give the best possible music education to the largest possible number of motivated students in a demanding, yet fun, environment.  A big emphasis is placed on teaching fundamentals; learning to read standard notation, demonstrating proper tone production, understanding correct ensemble techniques (balance, blend, and intonation), and playing a variety of music genres. We strive to provide our students with a challenging music experience in a safe and nurturing environment with the hopes of creating educated consumers of music.

We have several performances this year, including the Winter and Spring Concerts.  Depending on the size of the group (more is better), additional performance opportunities may present themselves.  天美影视s in the 6-8th grade instrumental music program are also eligible to participate in the LVJUSD Music Departments Solo and Ensemble.

We currently have four performing groups at Michell.  We have an Beginning and an Intermediate Orchestra and we have an Begininng and an Intermediate Band.  Our beginning groups are geared towards 6th grade or first year students, though 7th and 8th graders are always welcome.  For many, the beginning groups are the first chance to play more than the "core" instruments.   The intermediate groups are for students who have completed (1) or more years of middle school instruction.  In Intermediate Band and Intermediate Orchestra, the focus is on mastering the fundamentals and widening the breadth of literature.  Most of our students continue into the high school programs.

All 6-8th grade instrumental groups rehearse before school from 7:35 - 8:21 am. We are fortunate at Michell to have the support of the administration, teachers, office staff, custodial crews, and most importantly, the parents of our Michell students.  We greatly appreciate their time, commitment, and support.
